An investigation of the human inclination to try and explain and shape their own destiny via esoteric ideas and techniques of divination, superstition, and manifestation; CRYSTAL BALLER provides an analysis of the historical, sociological, and psychological modalities and circumstances that contributes to the enduring popularity of esoteric practice across human cultures in contempt of being labeled pseudoscientific by schools of rational thought; as well as predictions of the future of clairvoyance as we adapt to the nascent age of artificial intelligence.

Examining through the lens of typography design, by conducting research on the typefaces and visual language characteristic of the 19th century around the time of the spiritualism movement as well as other metaphysical symbols throughout history; the print captures the aesthetic of marketing materials of fortune telling. Hand fed through a black and white laser printer, 13lb Vellum and intermittently inserted Glassine pages the translucent pages pay homage to the mystical ability to peer behind the veil and see what lies ahead. CRYSTAL BALLER is bound by hand using the saddle stitch method and named after the song by hit 90’s band Third Eye Blind.
